A Perk of Single Life

Well, sometimes I have to remind my self that in my life I have some great benefits of this single life that I seem to be stuck in for the moment. It seems that when I feel the lowest that I am reminded of things that I may not be able to do if I was married, or had kids.
My brother called on Wednesday from Boise, ID and asked when I was going to be coming down before school starts in the fall. I pulled out my planner and explained that I didn't know if I would be able to, and if I did I would be coming alone and it would have to be this weekend. He said that was fine. I told him I would have to look at what I could do and then call him back.
I started to look at the gas prices and the fact that my car needed new tires prior to a long road trip. Plus, although I do like spending time with myself, 5 hours on the road is a long time. I was concerned about staying focused on the road and driving my car. I then started to look at flights on the internet when I was unable to reach my Mom right away (having a mom for a travel agent has its benefits). They looked reasonable, and when I got a hold of my Mom we booked a flight for the following day.
I left Thursday night after work and arrived at approx. 10:30pm in Boise. I was greeted at the airport by my brother, we chatted on the way home about a new kitchen appliance he had purchased, and when I got to his house I was able to sample home-made brownie batter ice-cream!!! WOW! Very rich, but very good!!! (Lactase enzyme pills were double right before my first bite).
The next day I was able to sleep in, and then went to my nieces elementary school for lunch. We planned on going to "Into the Woods" at the Idaho Shakespearean Festival, but it was sold out three days in advance, so we ended up eating brick oven pizza in a beautiful park in the canyon.
Saturday we went to their neighbors and picked fruits and veggies from their garden while they were out of town. Then we were off to Twin Falls, ID for the LDS Temple Open House. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! The art work that was displayed, the murals that were done on the walls, even the carpet was just beautiful. The woodwork was amazing. I left with a feeling of peace and awe. After the Temple we went to a dinner party of some of my brother and sister-in-laws friends. I didn't have a lot to talk about when it came to raising children and the joys of grandchildren, but it was good food, and a few laughs.
I arrived back home this afternoon. It was a wonderful relaxing trip. I am so grateful that I was able to take a trip on the last notice, and that my brother was willing to let me stay with him, and welcoming me to all the activities that they had planned. It really was exactly what I needed.
Now its back to work, and only a few weeks left of summer vacation!

That sounds like such a fun weekend! I love homemade ice cream! You should get your bro's recipe from him and I can try it too. Thats funny you were going to see Into the Woods. They were doing that at the Utah Symphony Opera too and its one we thought about going to. But our schedules didnt work out for that one so we just saw 1776. Anyway, Im glad you were able to get away for a few days. I wish you would have taken some pics! lol
